At Bluegrass Lane, early-season flowers a welcome sign of spring

At the Turf & Landscape Research Center, fondly know as Bluegrass Lane, pansies and violas have been blooming since mid-March. To achieve this rainbow of color so early in the season, plant them in the fall and mulch with straw. That's all it takes! Some fair better than others, so come visit us to see your best bets.
And while you're there, be sure to walk our bulb labyrinth! The classical Cretan design is planted with daffodils, tulips and grape hyacinths. (Read about it's construction last fall.) Daffodils are blooming now, and tulips will begin later in May. Be sure to bring your camera.
Later in the summer, plan to visit us to see our annual and perennial trials. New this year: Ornamental vegetables from Burpee!
Come on out and treat yourself to some horticulture therapy! You deserve it! Contact Melissa Kitchen mjb239@cornell.edu for more details.
