Career opportunities
Students who choose this area of study usually pursue careers in:
Plant Production - Become an independent grower or manager of greenhouses, orchards, nurseries, vegetable farms, or vineyards; tissue culture and propagation specialist; seed producer and plant breeder; or post-harvest storage technician
Education - Become a teacher or program coordinator, extension educator or crop specialist, consumer affairs advocate, or botanic garden or aboretum director
Marketing - Become a marketing specialist in advertising, sales, or public relations; a plant inspector; a broker or purchaser; a wholesale or retail store manager; a floral arts and interior design specialist
Service - Become a designer and/or manager of residential, private, or public sector landscapes; a turfgrass manager of lawns or recreational turf such as golf courses or athletic fields; an arboriculturist (tree manager); a freelance or corporate crop consultant; a horticultural therapist helping to restore people to physical or emotional health, an international aid or development consultant
Research - Become a public or corporate technician or scientist in the area of plant culture, variety testing and development, plant genetic improvement, production systems, pest management, or environmental protection.
